Common Injectable Concentrations

Injectable medications and liquid solutions are available in a range of concentrations. Understanding the most common mg/mL values helps you perform accurate dosage calculations and choose the right syringe volume for your needs.

What is Concentration?

Concentration describes the amount of active substance dissolved in each milliliter of a liquid solution. It is expressed in mg/mL (milligrams per milliliter). The same dose in mg will require a different draw volume depending on the concentration of the vial being used.

Most Common Concentrations and Volumes

The table below shows how common doses in mg translate to mL draw volumes across the most frequently encountered vial concentrations:

100mg/mL

Widely used; 1mL delivers 100mg exactly.
50mg0.50mL
100mg1.00mL
150mg1.50mL
200mg2.00mL

200mg/mL

Common concentration; 0.5mL delivers 100mg.
50mg0.25mL
100mg0.50mL
150mg0.75mL
200mg1.00mL

250mg/mL

Very common; 1mL delivers 250mg exactly.
62.5mg0.25mL
125mg0.50mL
187.5mg0.75mL
250mg1.00mL

300mg/mL

Higher concentration; less volume per dose.
75mg0.25mL
150mg0.50mL
225mg0.75mL
300mg1.00mL

400mg/mL

Higher concentration; less volume per dose.
100mg0.25mL
200mg0.50mL
300mg0.75mL
400mg1.00mL

Choosing the Right Syringe Size

Once you know the draw volume, selecting the appropriate syringe size is important for accuracy. For volumes under 1mL, a 1mL syringe provides the finest graduation markings and the most precise measurement. For volumes between 1mL and 3mL, a 3mL syringe is the standard choice.

Always Confirm Your Vial Label

Never assume the concentration of any vial. Always read the label before performing a dosage calculation. Products from different manufacturers may use different concentrations for the same compound. A misread concentration leads directly to a dose error.
